Since sexual and reproductive health is often seen as the purview of women, Promundo and International Center for Research on Women conducted a qualitative study on men’s engagement in premarital abortions in New Delhi, India. The organizations found that men often play a supporting role by accompanying women to health care appointments, procuring medications and information, and supporting their partners emotionally through the process. Though there is a cultural taboo around premarital sex and abortion, this MacArthur-supported study indicates young people’s attitudes toward sexuality and contraception are shifting in India.
