Direct air capture technology that removes carbon from the atmosphere may be critical to curbing global warming. A new battery technology absorbs carbon and waste gas as it charges. The battery technology is more efficient and scalable than other carbon capture solutions that may be necessary to address climate change. And as it discharges, it releases pure carbon dioxide that can be used for other purposes or compressed for disposal.

Its developers formed the company Verdox and raised $80 million to scale and commercialize the carbon capture technology. MacArthur supported the effort through a Catalytic Capital Consortium investment in the Prime Impact Fund which addresses the capital gap in financing for innovation around climate solutions.
