Cicero Independiente, a grantee, serves Cicero and Berwyn with inclusive and bilingual news and storytelling, and received the Catalyst Award for Local News Innovation at the MacArthur-supported Next Challenge for Media and Journalism National Awards. The $50,000 award recognizes a groundbreaking news organization that represents a new way forward for local journalism in the United States. Awardees include startups and creator journalists, and in addition to their grant, they receive a stipend, free training, and opportunities for mentorship.
