More than one million new voters may be registered soon in Illinois as the state’s legislature, led by Democrats, and its Republican Governor enacted automatic voter registration. Eligible but unregistered citizens will now be automatically registered when they do business at the Department of Motor Vehicles or other state agencies. Illinois is the 10th state to adopt this reform, which was informed by the Brennan Center for Justice, a MacArthur grantee.
