Humanity AI announced $18 million in new grants, including support for organizations that advance leadership, development, governance, and accountability for artificial intelligence (AI) that puts people first. The collaborative philanthropic initiative aims to ensure artificial intelligence serves the public good. This inaugural group of grantees have deep ability to lead the sector and shape the conversation on AI.
Their work includes AI civics to advance public education, literacy, and community decision-making on AI; policy research and journalism that strengthens accountability; helping grassroots communities shape AI standards and trajectory; and practical guidance to help institutions adopt AI responsibly.
“The promise of AI will be realized when communities have a seat at the table–not just as users, but as architects of the systems that affect their lives,” said John Palfrey, President of the MacArthur Foundation. “Humanity AI is investing in organizations that show what it looks like to build a future with AI that is accountable, inclusive, and designed in the public interest.”
