The MacArthur Foundation has made a grant to the Harris Theater for Music and Dance for a pilot program to subsidize rental costs for small and mid-sized music and dance groups in Chicago. Subsidies are available to new users, current users that show new work or add an education/outreach performance, and collaborations of three or more users. Priority is given to organizations that attract diverse audiences. The 1400 seat Harris Theater opened in November 2003 and became the first multi-use performing arts venue to be built in the Chicago downtown area since 1929.
