Ploughshares Fund’s Equity Rises program awarded $1 million in grants for experimental and transformational ideas and to support more diverse leaders in the nuclear field with MacArthur support. The cohort of advocates, researchers, and leaders aims to creatively reduce and eliminate the thread of nuclear weapons. Representing the range of frontline communities and leaders on nuclear issues, most of the sixteen projects are led by people of color, women, and gender nonconforming people, and 88 percent of the grants are to emerging leaders. The grants focus on challenging White supremacy and racism in the nuclear field, building connections between nuclear weapons and other fields, and examining and dismantling the military-industrial complex.
