Science of Cities

Next City has launched a new weekly column that will explore the scientific underpinnings of cities, and best practices that can improve the way cities function. Science of Cities is designed to provide fresh thinking and innovative ideas to public citizens, policymakers, thought leaders, and “urban advocates”, as cities around the world are struggling to become more resilient, opportunity rich, and inclusive. The column aims to elevate the conversation about science, research, urban policy, and their growing connection. Science of Cities is supported by MacArthur as part of its exploration into new ways of understanding and addressing the complex and interconnected challenges faced by cities around the world, from violence to climate change, and how to plan, manage, and govern to address them.
