Catalytic capital from philanthropy and impact investors has the potential to mobilize critical financing for climate solutions. To discuss leveraging this kind of market mechanism, John Balbach, Associate Director of Impact Investments at MacArthur, spoke with Susan Phinney Silver of the Packard Foundation, Shilpa Patel of MacArthur-grantee ClimateWorks, and Sarah Kearney of grantee Prime Coalition on a panel at the 2019 SOCAP conference. Phinney Silver and Balbach discussed the MacArthur-Packard collaboration on Terra Silva, an impact investing initiative designed to respond to the challenges of global climate change by making investments focused on the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of tropical forests worldwide.
