The new Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago houses the museum’s collection of 20th- and 21st-century art. The 264,000 square-foot building makes the institute the second largest art museum in the U.S. The Modern Wing — designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano — includes several public spaces free of charge to all visitors as an extension of Chicago’s Millennium Park, including the Nichols Bridgeway, the Bluhm Family Terrace, and Griffin Court. The Foundation supported the Modern Wing through the 25th anniversary grants awarded in 2003.
