White House Needs Science and Tech Expertise

The White House lacks the science and technology expertise necessary to adequately address key policy issues, from energy and the environment to national security, according to a new report from the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars. The report, Critical Upgrade: Enhanced Capacity for White House Science and Technology Policymaking (PDF), recommends that the President's Science Advisor play a pivotal role in such policy debates and in setting research priorities that encourage innovation and technology-based entrepreneurial activity in the U.S.
