Supporting Translation and Subtitling of Online Videos

MacArthur is providing a $100,000 grant to the Participatory Culture Foundation, sponsor of the video service Miro, to support the Universal Subtitles system. This system promises to allow vast amounts of online media content to reach a larger and more global audience regardless of language skills or disability. The grant will support technical development that will allow producers of online documentaries and other videos to utilize crowd-sourcing to translate and subtitle their work.
