Interactive Tool Shows Status of U.S. Coal Plants
February 15, 2018 | From the field | Climate Solutions

An interactive map by the Sierra Club shows existing U.S. coal plants and those that have retired or committed to retirement. Details on the plant's size and the carbon dioxide emissions that will be prevented by retirement are attached to each plant's status. The Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign, supported by MacArthur, works to unite grassroots activists across the country to push for replacing polluting coal plants with clean energy. So far, 266 plants – more than half of those in the United States – have been retired or plan retirement.
