China Becoming "Semi-Superpower"

The first issue of the China Journal of International Politics, created with MacArthur support, is generating lively discussion about China's global role.  Yan Xuetong, a foreign affairs specialist at Qinghua University in Beijing, writes that China’s fast growth in political and economic power will dramatically narrow its power gap with the United States, a view that generated coverage by The New York Times.  Mr. Yan argues that China has already surpassed Japan, Russia, Britain, France, Germany and India in terms of economic, military and political power.
