Grants to Daily Trust Foundation
2016 (Duration 3 years)
ABUJA, NIGERIA — Daily Trust, one of the two largest circulating newspapers in Nigeria, began publishing in 1998 and has seen commendable growth in its investigative reporting over the years. The Daily Trust Foundation was established in 2016 to provide scholarships to promising young journalists and women enrolled in medical schools, and finance economic empowerment projects and humanitarian services. With this award, the Daily Trust Foundation is building the capacity of journalists, media professionals, and students to conduct high-quality investigative work and to use technology to present the results in compelling ways. This project is expected to help to educate the public and key stakeholders on corruption issues, including those in the education and electricity sectors. In this endeavor, the Daily Trust Foundation is collaborating with other Foundation grantees. The award is part of a package of awards on the theme of strengthening the capacity of investigative and data-driven journalism in Nigeria.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded Daily Trust Foundation $350,000 between 1978 and 2017.
