The Daily Trust Foundation is the charitable arm of Daily Trust, the most widely read daily newspaper in northern Nigeria. The Foundation was established in 2016 to provide scholarships to promising young journalists and women enrolled in medical schools, and to finance economic empowerment projects and humanitarian services in northern Nigeria. With this renewal award, the Daily Trust Foundation is strengthening the pipeline for the next generation of investigative journalists in the northern region and other marginalized parts of the country, through training, mentoring, and field support to 150 young journalists who show a commitment to advancing social change and strengthening the fight against corruption. It is supporting investigations into corruption-related issues in public and private sectors in the region, with an emphasis on the power and education sectors. The Daily Trust Foundation is partnering with On Nigeria's civil society grantees to enable actions on investigative reports and increase the contributions to reducing corruption.

Daily Trust, one of the two largest circulating newspapers in Nigeria, began publishing in 1998 and has seen commendable growth in its investigative reporting over the years. The Daily Trust Foundation was established in 2016 to provide scholarships to promising young journalists and women enrolled in medical schools, and finance economic empowerment projects and humanitarian services. With this award, the Daily Trust Foundation is building the capacity of journalists, media professionals, and students to conduct high-quality investigative work and to use technology to present the results in compelling ways. This project is expected to help to educate the public and key stakeholders on corruption issues, including those in the education and electricity sectors. In this endeavor, the Daily Trust Foundation is collaborating with other Foundation grantees. The award is part of a package of awards on the theme of strengthening the capacity of investigative and data-driven journalism in Nigeria.
