$3,322,000

The University of Chicago is a premier academic and research institution driving new ways of thinking across several frontiers. The award is implemented by the Energy Policy Institute (EPIC), which is housed within the University’s Department of Economics, and carries out cutting-edge research on energy, climate and environment. In India, EPIC undertakes cross-disciplinary research to test innovative approaches for expanding energy access and achieving low-cost reductions in pollution. Most of EPIC’s research is conducted in close collaboration with Ministries at the center and in states. Building on its prior partnerships with national and state pollution control boards and the state government of Gujarat, this award supports EPIC to pursue a research-policy collaboration to deploy a large scale, market-based cap and trade regime to regulate particulate matter.
