The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is a leading South Asian not-for-profit policy research institution, based in India. As an organization committed to creating innovative solutions for a sustainable future, TERI’s work spans a wide range of issues, including climate, energy, environment, agriculture, habitats, health and nutrition, and resource management. In the energy sector, TERI has rich experience in designing reform strategies for power utilities, conducting policy analysis, resolving regulatory constraints, and designing energy efficiency programs. With this award, TERI is providing knowledge support to power distribution utilities in India, enabling them to operate more efficiently and to help meet India’s climate goals more effectively. The award also enables TERI to consolidate and share findings from such analysis with other power sector actors, including electricity regulators and policy makers, for more informed policy development.

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is a leading South Asian not-for-profit policy research institution, based in India. As an organization committed to creating innovative solutions for a sustainable future, TERI’s work spans a wide range of themes including climate, energy, environment, agriculture, habitats, health and nutrition, and resource management. In the energy sector, TERI has rich experience in designing reform strategies for power utilities, conducting policy analysis, resolving regulatory constraints, and designing energy efficiency programs. With this award, TERI is assisting a power utility in West Bengal to design and pilot initiatives to integrate suitable options for storing renewable energy in its distribution network. In addition, the award enables TERI to develop appropriate frameworks that power utilities can use to resolve operational challenges arising from intermittency and variability of energy from renewable sources, making it possible for them to contribute more effectively to India’s renewable energy expansion goals.

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is a leading South Asian not-for-profit policy research institution, based in India. As an organization committed to creating innovative solutions for a sustainable future, TERI’s work spans a wide range of issues including climate, energy, environment, agriculture, habitats, health and nutrition, and resource management. In the energy sector, TERI has rich experience in designing reform strategies for power utilities, conducting policy analysis, and resolving regulatory constraints, and in designing energy efficiency programs. This award enables TERI to assist policy makers, private sector and public sector institutions in India in taking appropriate measures to facilitate the country’s transition to lower global warming refrigerants. This will help India meet its commitments under the 2016 Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on eliminating hydrofluorocarbons, a group of potent global warming-causing refrigerants.

Based in India, the Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) is a leading South Asian not-for-profit policy research institution that advances transformative solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation, with a special focus on sustainable use of natural resources and efficient use of energy and infrastructure. Since the Paris international climate agreement, policymakers at the national and federal levels have taken several actions to significantly raise the renewable energy (RE) generation capacity in the country – to meet its massive energy requirements and to fulfill the commitments made to the global community. However, a key challenge that continues to create serious concern is the lack of options and tested pathways by which RE can be effectively integrated into existing and future power distribution networks. With added generation capacity, this challenge will become even more critical in the future. This award builds on TERI’s ongoing work on environmental policy analysis,in developing frameworks, software tools, standards and policies for effective integration of RE in the power distribution grid for one state, which could then serve as a useful prototype for other Indian states. TERI works closely with policy makers, power utilities, regulatory commissions and RE generating entities to identify solutions and pathways that meet their respective specific needs.

The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) is a leading South Asian not-for-profit policy research institution, with offices in India and across the globe. TERI’s climate program spans global, federal and state levels to advance transformative solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation, with special focus on sustainable use of natural resources and efficient use of energy and infrastructure. This award builds on TERI’s ongoing work on environmental policy analysis to design a National Inventory Management System (NIMS) for India  - a management system to track year-on-year impact of various policies and programs on greenhouse gas (GHG) emission levels, which are a critical input to the Measurement, Reporting and Verification framework that the country will adopt to report progress in 2018 on national commitments made in Paris.
