The Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) is a national organization that works to enhance the effectiveness of prosecutors to create safer communities through training, technical assistance, and public education. JustLeadershipUSA is a national organization that builds local power within communities across the nation to dismantle oppressive systems. This award supports a partnership between APA and JustLeadershipUSA to establish a Race Equity Committee of national criminal justice stakeholders to create policy recommendations and actionable items that directly address racial and ethnic disparities throughout the criminal justice system. While many system stakeholders have employed various strategies to advance racial equity, research indicates that racial and ethnic disparities persist in the criminal justice system. For this reason, eliminating racial disparities requires innovative, collaborative, and intentional changes. National associations can act in concert to reduce racial and ethnic disparities across the country, by establishing a unified national policy agenda, coupled with practical guidance for cross-collaboration and community engagement.
