Founded in 1956 in the context of the Civil Rights Movement, the Chicago Children's Choir (Choir) is a multiracial, multicultural choral music organization for children living in Chicago aged eight to 18. The Choir was established to create bridges of understanding among young people from different backgrounds, and a commitment to diversity remains central to its mission. Each year, over 5,000 children representing 57 Chicago zip codes participate in the Choir's activities, which include more than 100 public concerts. This award provides general operating support to the Choir as part of the Foundation's Culture, Equity, and the Arts program.

It is the largest children's choir in the country with more than 3,200 children participating in the Choir's activities each year. The Choir's signature program is a 100 voice concert choir. Begun in 1956 during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, the Chicago Children's Choir was purposefully designed to bring children of different backgrounds together. This grant will support several new artistic and education initiatives, choir expansion plans, and its general operations.
