The Futuro Media Group (Futuro) is a nonprofit newsroom founded by journalist Maria Hinojosa in 2010 and based in Harlem, New York. It produces the weekly Latino USA, an audio magazine show about issues facing Latino communities and communities of color in the United States, and In the Thick, a weekly politics podcast featuring journalists, advocates, and politicians of color. With its majority nonwhite newsroom, Futuro is working to strengthen its capacity to conduct in-depth investigative reporting and work more dynamically across multiple media platforms. General operating support allows Futuro to have a steady base of support from which to grow its capacity to report rigorously on critical issues facing the U.S. public from historically underrepresented perspectives. The outcome is multimedia stories that create greater understanding of the complexity of current events and their impacts on individuals and communities.
