Moscow School of Civic Education

The three-year grant to the Moscow School of Political Studies will support a project to advance the independence of mass media in Russia. The project is designed to strengthen the professionalism of media workers throughout Russia, support the development of an independent and diverse media, and increase media coverage of human rights issues in the media. Project activities would be three annual three-day seminars, each for 150 Russian media workers and invited experts, and associated web-based activities. The seminars would feature contributions by prominent foreign and Russian experts and an opportunity to debate the situation of media rights in Russia, new media trends, and the impact of new technology. Foundation dollars would primarily fund seminars and website development. The project would advance Foundation strategy to protect media rights and media independence in Russia.
