Youth FX is a nonprofit organization founded in 2008 with a mission to empower young people ages 10 to 24 by teaching them the technical and creative aspects of digital filmmaking and media production. It offers educational film and storytelling opportunities for Albany, New York-region high school students and community members, and in 2016, it launched the NeXtDoc Fellowship Program (NeXt Doc), a year-round fellowship for emerging documentary filmmakers of color between the ages of 20 to 24 from around the United States aimed at helping them transition into being professional filmmakers. The outcome of the NeXt Doc Fellowship is a strong network of emerging nonfiction filmmakers of color who have the skills and access to build careers and a community of peers with whom these filmmakers can collaborate to produce nonfiction multimedia content from their perspectives.
