Prosper Africa is a multi-stakeholder initiative, co-led by the Council on Smallholder Agricultural Finance and the Global Development Incubator, set up to increase lending to small- and medium-sized agricultural enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prosper Africa seeks to spur lending to these enterprises by using donor funding to provide financial incentives to 15-20 lenders. In addition, the program will use data drawn from this demonstration project and third-party evaluations to make the case for targeted public support of this market. Project leaders also intend to partner with national policymakers in East African focus countries to advance policy and budgetary reforms. This award supports the design, structuring and administration activities required for Prosper Africa's launch at the end of Q3, 2019.

The Collaborative for Frontier Finance (CFF) is a group of fund managers, funders, and field-builders aiming to catalyze $3-5 billion in capital by 2023 for the sub-field of early-stage and moderate-growth small and growing businesses, which forms part of the larger 'small and medium enterprise' sector. The sector is globally considered an important driver for inclusive economic growth and job creation. CFF is managed by the Global Development Incubator, a nonprofit organization providing strategic and operational support for impact organizations and multi-stakeholder initiatives. It seeks to scale financing and enabling interventions by accelerating or launching successful models and instruments, building an evidence base and advocating for investment and capacity building. CFF hopes its work will build a robust, sustainable and diverse financing ecosystem for this part of the enterprise ecosystem, ultimately increasing the amount of capital available to these businesses.
