$396,000

The Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM) conducts policy research and training in the field of international security. This award renews support for CISSM, whose previous award focused on nuclear security and energy transformation with a special focus on the security costs, benefits, and risks of expanding nuclear energy production using different types of small modular reactors. Building upon the previous project, CISSM experts investigate patterns of nuclear technology development in China and South Korea in order to surface opportunities for the United States to advance cooperative nonproliferation objectives in the region. Its intended outcome is to reduce nuclear risks in the region that may result from the expansion of nuclear energy.
