The mission of the Chicago History Museum (the Museum) is to share Chicago's stories, serving as a hub of scholarship and learning, inspiration, and civic engagement. Established in 1856 as the Chicago Historical Society, the Chicago History Museum is the city's oldest cultural institution. The Museum hosts more than 250,000 visitors and 60,000 elementary and high school students each year. Through its exhibits, public programs, tours, and sizable education programs, the Museum helps Chicagoans make personal connections to history. This award recommends renewed general operating support to the Chicago History Museum.

The Chicago Historical Society, which houses the Chicago History Museum, is the city’s oldest cultural institution, serving as a hub of scholarship and learning through its programs, exhibitions and research center. With this award, the Chicago History Museum works with the Polish History Museum to explore inter-generational immigration experiences of Poles in Chicago through the collection  of oral histories. The culminating exhibitions are presented in Chicago and Warsaw, Poland. Award funds support travel, lodging, stipends, supplies, programs, and events.

The Chicago Historical Society was established in 1856 and is the city’s oldest cultural institution. It collects, interprets and presents the history of Chicago and Illinois. Each year more than 50,000 K-12 students participate in the Historical Society’s educational programs. Public programming and tours reach more than 3,000 individuals annually. The Research Center is used by more than 10,000 researchers each year. Recent investments in digital services bring Historical Society programs, collections and curriculum to 2 million online users annually. This grant will support general operations of the Historical Society, new and continuing exhibitions, and educational initiatives.
