The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) was established by the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005 as the government regulator of the power industry in Nigeria. Its mission is to promote and ensure an investor-friendly industry and efficient market structure to meet the needs of Nigeria for safe, adequate, reliable, and affordable electricity. With this award, the Commission is educating customers and citizens on their rights and procedures for rights enforcement; strengthening interaction and feedback between customers and electricity distribution companies on standards, codes, and guidelines for their operations and accountability; and holding distribution companies accountable for their obligations. The award contributes to On Nigeria’s goal of reducing corruption by building an atmosphere of accountability, transparency, and good governance.
