(Radio Ambulante) is a nonprofit newsroom established in 2011 to provide in-depth coverage of underreported stories and issues affecting people in Latin America and Latinos in the United States. It distributed its first podcast, Radio Ambulante, independently from 2011 to 2016, and in 2016, Radio Ambulante became the first Spanish-language podcast distributed by National Public Radio (NPR). Its reporters and stories have been featured on English-language NPR programs, and it has collaborated with other outlets including Univisión Noticias, and ESPN. Recent Radio Ambulante episodes have covered the crisis in Venezuela, immigration in the United States, the post-conflict transition in Colombia and elsewhere, and the use of technology in social and political movements. This general operating award enables Radio Ambulante to produce rigorous and nuanced narrative journalism about Latin America and the experiences of Latinos in the United States, distributed in a widening array of formats, thus deepening the awareness and understanding of the general public.
