The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico collaborates with the Mexican government and civil society organizations to advance human rights in Mexico. It supports numerous human rights initiatives through training, advocacy, and monitoring and provides technical assistance to authorities aimed at strengthening the policy framework for protecting human rights. The award contributes to implementation of the 2018 National Law on Disappearances, with special emphasis on provision of technical assistance to government agencies for improving criminal investigations of disappearances, and revamping Mexico’s forensic services responsible for analyzing over 26,000 unidentified remains. The award also contributes to increasing the capacity of the National Prosecutor’s Office to duly investigate disappearances and provide effective access to justice for the families of the disappeared.
