The Calvert Social Investment Foundation (Calvert), founded in 1995, is a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) based in Columbia, Maryland. Through its pioneering Community Investment Note, Calvert has raised more than $800 million from 13,500 individual investors – capital that it has invested in nonprofit organizations working in affordable housing development, microfinance, women's empowerment, small business development, and financial services. Calvert will use this grant to further its growth and advance its mission by pursuing multiple financial innovations aimed at tapping into and expanding the growing universe of social impact investors.
Program-Related Investment to capitalize new loans to be made via MicroPlace, an online marketplace that allows individuals to invest in international microfinance organizations.
To support a strategic planning process to expand the ability to provide capital to qualifying nonprofit organizations in the United States and internationally.
To support the Community Investment Information Project (over two years).
Program-related investment to launch a high-impact fund to meet the capital needs of community-based organizations.
