CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — Founded in 1992, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Chicago is a pan-Asian, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower the Asian American community through advocacy by utilizing research, education, and coalition-building. With this award, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Chicago offers information workshops and legal screening to Asian American immigrant communities across the greater Chicago metropolitan area facing aggressive federal immigration enforcement policies. The organization educates immigrants and their families on changes to law and policy that may render some subject to deportation, and on to bars on entry to the United State for refugees and individuals from certain nationals. It helps Asian American residents of the Chicago area understand their legal rights, obtain legal screening, and prepare emergency plans.

The MacArthur Foundation awarded Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Chicago $50,000 between 1978 and 2017.
