Established in 1975, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) is committed to providing quality teaching, research, and community service in all fields of human endeavor. With Foundation support, UDUS is undertaking documentation and research on violence in the North West of Nigeria. The research looks at the nature, patterns, and dynamics of violence as well as community resilience to protracted conflicts of armed banditry, cattle rustling, farmer/herder clashes, kidnapping, terrorism, and sexual and gender-based violence. The research is rooted in ethnographic, historical, and sociological perspectives. The project design, scope, methodology, and tools are co-created with key state security agencies and policymakers to get the buy-in and ownership necessary to enhance the adoption and impact of the final product. The research findings are disseminated through policy roundtables, policy briefs, and social media engagement with relevant actors.
