The Truman Center for National Policy (TCNP) is a nationwide membership organization of diverse leaders inspired to serve in the aftermath of 9/11 and committed to shaping and advocating for tough, smart, national security solutions. TCNP, along with its sister organization Truman National Security Project, identifies, trains, and positions leaders across America who share this worldview. This award provides support to TCNP’s Nonproliferation Initiative to use its nationwide network of fellows to build local constituencies for nuclear issues, creating an unanimous voice to influence government policy.

Truman Center for National Policy brings together energy experts, security policy advisors, and veteran leaders to develop and advocate for energy policy solutions that reflect the energy and security needs of the United States. By making the connection between oil dependence, climate change, and energy security, Truman Center creates a powerful case that climate change is a national security issue. Veterans are able to effectively deliver this message to a broad audience, furthering public understanding and policymaker discourse about the urgency to address climate change. This award helps train veteran leaders to advocate for climate policy solutions and reach new audiences, and helps support deeper expert analysis on energy and climate security issues.

The Truman Center for National Policy convenes policy experts, political professionals, and veteran leaders to develop and advocate for policy recommendations for a safer and more prosperous world. This project brings together experts and civil society leaders to generate and analyze crisis scenarios that could result in Constitutional emergencies. Resulting analysis and recommendations will be shared in a subsequent phase with civil society leaders across sectors to promote preparedness and collaboration, and to identify contemporary limits and opportunities for non-governmental organizations’ influence.

The Truman Center for National Policy brings together energy experts, security policy advisors, and veteran leaders to develop and advocate for policy recommendations that reflect the energy needs of the United States. By making the connection between oil dependence, climate change, and energy security, the Truman Center creates a powerful case that climate change is a national security issue. Veterans are able to deliver effectively this difficult, complex message to further the public’s understanding and policymakers' discourse about the urgency to address climate change. Support from the MacArthur Foundation helps train veteran leaders to advocate for climate policy solutions through a variety of strategies, including lawmaker briefings, public roundtables, op-eds, and screenings of The Burden – the first documentary-length film on the national security threats posed by U.S. dependence on oil.
