The Sunlight Foundation’s Bi-Coastal Datafest is a two-day event that will take place in mid-December simultaneously at Columbia University and Stanford University. During the event, 400 participants, including data experts from 14 universities, researchers, journalists, and software engineers will work for 2 days analyzing the influence of money in politics. Participants will access lobbying data, campaign finance data, and government contracts and other government transparency-related data, which will be organized prior to the event by volunteers from Google. The event is designed to bring greater public scrutiny to money’s political influence, and support collaboration between newsrooms, nonprofit watchdog organizations, universities and scientists.
