Founded in 1986, the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), is the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan environmental legal advocacy organization rooted in and focused on the South, a key region for the Climate Solutions strategy. Its mission is to protect the basic right to clean air, clean water, and a livable climate; to preserve its region's natural treasures and rich biodiversity; and to provide a healthy environment for all. As one of the key legal partners for the environmental justice programs funded by the Inflation Reduction Act in the Southeast, SELC is uniquely positioned to navigate the increasingly vulnerable position of its clients. Additionally, the organization will continue to be a valuable advocate in state and federal proceedings regarding environmental rules and regulations. This award supports all aspects of the organization's operating activities.
