Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) is celebrating over 50 years of fighting for fairness for vulnerable people. SLLS’s work provides free civil legal aid to low-income people and breaks down legal barriers so clients can access safety, housing, income, education, and medical care. They are nationally recognized as leaders in helping communities recover after disasters such as hurricanes, epic floods, and oil spills. This grant will enable SLLS to subsidize the cost of phone calls for justice-involved people with disabilities due to the suspension of contact visits as a result of COVID-19. This award will also enable SLLS’s Veterans and Innovative Projects Unit to work closely with homeless veterans and homeless people living with disabilities in New Orleans and Baton Rouge who have been impacted by Covid-19 and hurricane activity.
