Social Work and Research Centre (SWRC) is a community-based grassroots organization working to make marginalized communities sustainable and self-sufficient. It is also known as Barefoot College, Tilonia and was started by Sanjit 'Bunker' Roy in 1972. SWRC has strengthened the dignity and prosperity of rural people, particularly women and people from marginalized sections of society. By harnessing talented human capital and appropriate rural, traditional, and renewable technologies, it has empowered rural communities to have more control over their lives and become change agents. SWRC strongly believes that development can only be achieved by bringing the poor and marginalized along,  as agents and partners of change. This award supports the organization's general operations.
