Social Development Integrated Centre (Social Action) is a nonprofit organization established in 2008. It promotes social justice by building solidarity with communities and citizens' groups to address energy and climate policies, public finance accountability, and debt and trade policies and practices. The previous award to Social Action helped community members improve their skills in tracking and demanding services and using financial literacy tools and the Freedom of Information (FOI) law. With this tie-off award, Social Action continues to strengthen diverse local voices to track the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) budget and constituency projects in communities. Social Action also collaborates with other Foundation grantees particularly those focusing on beneficial ownership, open government, contract transparency, and FOI, and with government agencies such as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Bureau of Public Procurement, and the Corporate Affairs Commission, to improve mechanisms for tracking accountability in government agencies and the NDDC. It also amplifies media and journalism cohort reports. The award is expected to enhance the participation of disadvantaged voices, build community accountability practices, and contribute to a reduction in corruption. It will also enable Social Action to continue to provide leadership in the accountability and anti-corruption ecosystem after the On Nigeria program ends.

Social Action also collaborates with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to share lessons and feedback on findings. Social Action advocates for Open Government Partnership principles such as open contracting, transparency, and citizen empowerment in the Niger Delta. It also complements other grantees by amplifying media and journalism cohort reports. This project is implemented in coordination with other Foundation grantees, particularly those that also focus on open government, contracting, and freedom of information. The award is expected to enhance the participation of marginalized voices, build community accountability practices, and contribute to a reduction in corruption.

Social Development Integrated Centre (Social Action) is a Nigerian nonprofit promoting democratic participation, transparency, accountability, rights, and protection. Established in 2007, and with deep roots in the Niger Delta, it is an anti-corruption organization with experience building the capacity of communities and assisting them to hold officials and institutions accountable. The award enables Social Action to use the reports generated by the Foundation’s media and journalism grantees to mobilize citizens. The project builds capacity and supports Social Action’s existing Citizens Budget Platforms to organize, mobilize, and coordinate with community groups to track government actions and response to corruption cases and to advocate for accountability.  This project enables community action on corruption, optimizes attention to investigative reports, and creates opportunities for action by mobilizing citizens to demand accountability.
