Self-Reliant Initiatives through Joint Action (SRIJAN) is a non-profit in India that empowers rural communities in six Indian states, to be financially self-reliant. SRIJAN works through women-led self-help/mutual-help groups to develop and execute livelihood solutions for the poor and the marginalized in these states. SRIJAN also serves as the secretariat for the Rapid Rural Community Response to COVID-19 (RCRC) coalition of 60 non-profit organizations that cover over 16 million people in 15 Indian states.
The award enables SRIJAN to work with its coalition partners to leverage their respective last-mile service delivery infrastructures to provide healthcare relief support to rural communities in central India. The award allows SRIJAN to create community awareness on COVID prevention, treatment, and vaccination; provide resources to supplement food and medical supplies to vulnerable communities, and build stronger coordination with existing rural healthcare delivery systems for stronger impact. The award contributes to the Foundation’s goal of improving access to resources for immediate COVID-19-related public health challenges while simultaneously advancing new models, policies, and infrastructure for greater public health equity and resilience in the future.
