Rebuild Local News, which was launched in early 2023 as an independent nonprofit, is using this general support grant to roll out a set of activities in collaboration with its coalition members to develop state and local level policies that can lead to $1 billion per year in public support for local news by 2033.

The Rebuild Local News Coalition seeks to stabilize and strengthen the local news industry by supporting policy analysis, public education, and coalition-building. The Coalition represents over 3,000 newsrooms in all 50 states and advocates for local, state, and federal public policies that can address the financial challenges facing local news. The intended outcome of this project is to raise awareness about, and build momentum towards, public policies that can support the sustainability of local journalism.
