The African diaspora in the Americas comprises more than one hundred million people. They have in common both deep roots of cultural pride and the reality of facing persistent discrimination within their countries. While many African-American and Afro-descendant populations are organized socially and politically in their own countries, there is relatively little cross-national organizing in the Americas. The Racial Equity Building Institute of the Americas, a project of the Puerto Rico Community Foundation, seeks to address this gap by providing networking, convening, and thought leadership for nonprofit, civil society, and philanthropic leaders interested in amplifying the achievements and building the power of the African diaspora in the Americas.
