Points North Institute is a nonprofit organization designed to support the next generation of nonfiction storytellers. It presents the Camden International Film Festival and Points North Forum, and a growing set of artist development initiatives: retreats, residencies, workshops, and fellowship. The 4th World Indigenous Media Lab is a yearlong fellowship for seven talented emerging and mid-career Indigenous filmmakers, providing opportunities to develop their skills and and networks through masterclasses, hands-on trainings, workshopping projects in development, and pitch meetings with funders and other industry decision makers. The outcomes of this work are the advancement of the careers of Indigenous makers, including through securing funding, distribution, and other artist development opportunities.
Points North Institute (Points North) is a nonprofit organization that presents the Camden International Film Festival and Points North Forum; it also provides retreats, residencies, workshops, and fellowships that nurture the careers of diverse nonfiction storytellers and help them develop a stronger artistic voice. In collaboration with Longhouse Media, Points North Institute will host the 2019 cohort of fellows from the 4th World Indigenous Media Lab at the Camden International Film Festival, where they will practice pitching their nonfiction media projects, attend rough cut screenings, masterclasses, panels, screenings, and one-on-one meetings with many of the leading documentary film funders and distributers. Points North will also host an Artist Programs Kickoff Lunch the first day of the Festival, which will convene more than 60 early-career filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, including the 4th World Indigenous Media Lab Fellows and cohorts from other programs and partnerships: the Points North Fellowship, North Star Residency, Shortform Editing Residency, BAVC Mediamaker Fellowship, and LEF Foundation Grantees. The outcome of these activities will be a stronger professional network and creative development opportunities for the early career Indigenous filmmakers of the 4th World Indigenous Media Lab, and stronger network building for all of the participating filmmakers, enabling them to advance their artistic development and careers.
