The Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at The Ohio State University (Kirwan Institute) works to create a just and inclusive society where people and communities of all races and ethnicities have the opportunity to thrive. For almost 20 years, the Kirwan Institute has worked nationally to enhance the rigor and application of research-based solutions to many of the nation’s most complex social problems. This award supports the Kirwan Institute’s engagement with the Safety and Justice Challenge’s (SJC) racial equity cohort, four existing SJC Network sites in partnership with community organizations, who are committed to advancing racial justice in their communities with a focus on the criminal justice system. The award enables Kirwan to provide technical assistance to the racial equity cohort to assess aspects of diversity and inclusion in their communities, develop strategic plans for implementation that address racial inequities in their communities, and create a racial equity toolkit as a community resource.
