Established in 1960, the Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research (NISER) is a federal research institute and think tank for promoting applied research for socioeconomic planning, policymaking, and development. It collaborates with Nigerian universities and research institutes. With this award, NISER is developing in-house capacity to use behavior change approaches in order to undertake policy-oriented research using theories, tools, and frameworks from the behavioral science field and to support policymaking and development planning in targeted federal and state agencies. NISER is developing curricula for training experts from its network of universities and research institutes. It is training senior policymakers, supporting behavioral approaches in development planning at select federal and state agencies, and establishing a legacy center for advancing the study  of behavior change approaches for public-sector planning and development managers. The award is expected to reduce corruption and promote accountability by institutionalizing behavior change approaches in NISER’s network of Nigerian universities and the public sector. This project is implemented in collaboration with other behavior change and Foundation grantees.
