This grant to New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service supports a critical assessment of the state of data-intensive urban planning, policy, and research and a forecast of the near-future impact of current efforts to use digital information to change how cities are understood and how they are governed. A team led by Anthony Townsend will conduct interviews with researchers and policymakers, map their social and institutional networks, and provide an analysis of risks and opportunities presented by data-driven approaches to urban planning and management. The research findings will be compiled and distributed as an e-book.
