Located within the grounds of Humboldt Park, a city park in Chicago, NMPRAC describes itself as the only museum in the nation devoted to showcasing Puerto Rican arts and cultural exhibitions year-round. Core programming includes five exhibitions per year, workshops, seminars, docent-led tours, and community events such as its Barrio Arts Festival. Goals are to increase recognition for local artists, to celebrate Puerto Rican culture, and preserve artistic and cultural collections that are in danger of being destroyed by natural disasters on the island of Puerto Rico.
