National Cable Satellite Corporation (known as C-SPAN) is a nonprofit public service created in 1979 by the American cable television industry to provide the public with unfiltered access to see the federal government at work. Through live coverage of the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, the Executive branch, the Supreme Court, and other forums where public policy is discussed and debated, C-SPAN offers viewers direct insight into how decisions are made. C-SPAN presents proceedings without editing, commentary, or analysis and with a balanced representation of viewpoints, while also providing opportunities for public engagement through call-in programs and other formats. This award supports general operations.
