Military Veterans in Journalism (MVJ) is a professional association that builds community for veterans, supports their career growth, and advocates for diversifying newsrooms through hiring and promoting more veterans. MVJ recognizes that veterans bring a valuable perspective, nuanced understanding, and on-the-ground experience about the military and veteran affairs that ultimately benefits newsrooms and audiences alike. The organization works with news outlets, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and other partners to create opportunities for veterans to pursue and succeed in careers in the media industry. MVJ has more than 700 veteran members across the country who are aspiring or working journalists. This grant provides general operating support for Military Veterans in Journalism.

This award enables MVJ to commit dedicated resources to pilot novel research and reporting approaches addressing disinformation targeted at military communities. MVJ intends to collaborate within and outside of the military and veteran journalism space to amplify reach and impact in this growing area of concern.
