Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) is a not-for-profit fund that supports independent media organizations around the world by providing affordable debt and equity financing. Since 1995, MDIF has helped 143 independent newsrooms across 46 countries build sustainable businesses around fact-based, journalistic content. This grant enables MDIF to work with local partners to strengthen independent newsrooms across Southeast Asia in order to inform and educate the public through fact-based journalism.
The Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) is a not-for-profit investment fund for independent media organizations in countries where access to free and independent media is under threat. MDIF provides grants and impact investments, supported by technical assistance, to independent media organizations around the world. With this three-year award, MDIF is launching a grant and technical support fund for independent Nigerian media organizations to develop, test, and introduce revenue generation efforts to preserve their editorial independence and make their operations more sustainable. Up to 25 media organizations can apply for support through a competition, while a wider range of media organizations can take part in training activities. By the end of the award, selected organizations will have the skills to experiment with different revenue generation approaches and more opportunities for collaboration and coordination with their peer media groups. The award is expected to contribute to strengthening the independence and sustainability of the Nigerian media sector, which is important for achieving On Nigeria’s anti-corruption goal.
