The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation advances understanding and cooperation among nations and peoples of Asia and the United States. With MacArthur support, Mansfield leads a trilateral dialogue on nuclear spent fuel management. The dialogue convenes experts and officials from Japan, South Korea, and the United States in order to identify opportunities for cooperation. The intended outcome of this project is to develop policy proposals to manage spent nuclear fuel that are technically sound; politically viable; strengthen nuclear safety and security; and lay the groundwork for further progress.

With MacArthur support, Mansfield brings together experts and officials from the United States, China, and Japan in pursuit of common ground to improve mutual understanding about security issues in North East Asia. In particular, this project focuses on the safety, security, and environmental implications of nuclear power in the region. The intended outcome of this award is to make progress toward improved regional relations.
