2022 (1 year)
$50,000

Founded in 2012, Love Unity and Values Institute’s (LUV) mission is to inspire hope and empower underserved youth with economic opportunities while building resiliency and social-emotional competencies. LUV accomplishes this mission by providing restorative justice practices infused with “brain-based strategies” designed to reduce the effect of chronic stressors and build healthy relationships among youth, their families, and the community.  The LUV Institute proposes to convene local artists, community residents, and local school officials to design and implement an expansion of the Parade of Hearts to additional communities on Chicago's South and West sides. With this X-Grant, LUV Institute supports the cost of convening artists, residents, and school personnel to determine the themes and placement of the hearts.

The Love, Unity & Values (LUV) Institute supports young people, ages 11-24, who face challenges with college and career readiness by providing foundational skills in literacy, art, and well-being. Its mission is to inspire hope and empower traditionally underserved youth with economic opportunities, while building resiliency and social-emotional competencies. With this award, the LUV Institute offers workshops to youth who respond to potentially violent situations to help them develop skills in active listening and respectful communication. The workshops take place prior to Halloween, when the possibility of conflict among youth runs high.
